High visibility workwear is an essential part of personal protection equipment (PPE) and uniform which allows the wearer to be visible in potentially dangerous environments that could cause injury. By wearing a hi vis item of clothing, it ensures that the wearer can be clearly seen, regardless of the environment they are working in. It is one of the simplest ways to make sure the wearer is seen, which can avoid any potential accidents or injury. Commonly, hi vis workwear is fluorescent colour and reflective for visibility in all lighting conditions. Hi vis clothing is often worn by:
Lorry drivers
Forklift drivers
Railway workers
Roadworkers

What is the difference between Class 1, 2 and 3 hi vis workwear?
To be certified as high visibility, PPE workwear is tested and must conform to EN ISO 20471. This is an essential regulation that must be met by any industries where there is a large majority of high-risk work that takes place near traffic, cranes and other vehicles, in the dark or areas with poor visibility. EN ISO 20471 is divided into three classes and it is important that the correct level of protection or categorisation is worn dependant on the application it is being used for.
Class 1
This is the lowest protection class level available and is often given to items like trousers, T-shirts and hi vis vests.
Class 2
This intermediate class is applied to workwear like hi vis vests, short sleeve T-shorts or polo shirts
Class 3
This class provides the highest level of protection and is applied to PPE workwear that generally provides complete coverage like bomber or parka jackets and long-sleeved T-shirts or polo shirts
How do I clean my hi vis jacket?
To clean your high visibility jacket, a 40° wash is recommended and left to be air-dried. Tumble drying, ironing, dry cleaning or bleaching is not recommended.
